I'm a bit late sharing this, but this has been one of the coolest album packaging projects I've had the privilege of working on (so far) this year: "Sun Records Curated by Record Store Day - Vol. 6" LP." This particular compilation album features an all-female roster of fantastic Sun and Shelby Singleton recording artists from the Sun vaults, such as Jeannie C. Riley, Betty Harris, Bettye LaVette, and Evie Sands, to name a few, curated and compiled by indie record shop employees for Record Store Day. This release is limited to 4,000 copies world-wide pressed on heavy weight black vinyl, and is sponsored by Tito's Handmade Vodka.
I'm a huge fan of Sun Records and their legacy, so when I was asked to work on this project there was no way in hell I'd turn it down. It's one thing to design a project like this, it's another to actually hold the final project on your hands. Nothing gives me more joy and satisfaction than working on album packaging for the vinyl format, and working with great labels and creative folks to make projects like this happen. Plus, this is a great collection of soul, funk and country pop hits.
Many thanks to Andrew Rossiter at ORG Music for giving me a shot on this project, and thanks to the folks at Sun Records and Record Store Day for giving me the green light on the packaging design. I definitely look forward to the chance of working on the next project with you all.
SIDE NOTE: This release was limited to indie record shops at the time of its April 13, 2019 release, but you might be able to find a nice, inexpensive copy on eBay or the Discogs marketplace, if your local record shop doesn't have a copy available.
I'll be sure to share some of the other vinyl album packaging projects I've worked on recently, soon, too. If you or your band is in need of packaging and design for your next album project, shoot me a message and let's see if we can't work together!
